Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Wilkinson is urging residents of Salisbury to ensure their voice is heard, as there is less than 24 hours remaining to complete the ‘Use Your Voice’ Survey.
After launching almost 4 weeks ago this may be a useful way for residents to comment on police performance and perception of the service, particularly as latest figures show only 5.7% of crimes are solved.
Following recent scenes in areas elsewhere like Southport, Whitehall and Hartlepool where residents are claiming a ‘two-tier’ policing system, any responses to the survey will help feed into a new Police and Crime Plan.
After police clashed with protesters in Whitehall last night, in order to make arrests, officers are heard saying “pick anyone out”.
According to a report from His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Constabulary last month, police are trying to rebuild public trust but are still failing too many victims.
In the annual assessment of policing, Andy Cook said, “Despite efforts to rebuild public trust, the police are still failing to meet the public’s expectations and are letting down too many victims of crime.”
Locally, Philip Wilkinson, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire, says responses to the survey will ‘set out strategic policing and crime priorities until 2029’.
Mr Wilkinson added, “This is your last chance to ensure that your views are heard and reflected in the next Police and Crime Plan.
“If you haven’t already completed the survey, I would encourage you to do so as soon as you can to avoid missing the deadline.”
Members of the public will be able to download the draft plan from the PCC website and provide feedback in early September.
The revised plan will replace Making Wiltshire Safer: Police and Crime Plan 2021-2025 after it is presented at Wiltshire’s Police and Crime Panel meeting in November.
